What’s All The Hype Over Metabolic Type?

I was so grateful to have my cute little 79 year old mamita (grandmother) come to visit from Peru for the holidays.  During her visit I asked her what kinds of medications she was taking.  She gave me a strange look and said “Nada!” which means “Nothing!”.  She was shocked to learn that Americans tend to be on some kind of medication by the time we turn 30 years old and that number conveniently increases as we get older.  This is information I’ve gathered from working at a pharmacy throughout several parts of NJ for about a decade.  She told me it was because they don’t eat real food.  She was raised off the coast of Cartavio eating meat, fish, stews and legumes.  It was no surprise to me that I had begun to crave foods that tailored to my metabolic type.

Metabolic typing is the practice of Continue reading

With the time I took off for Thanksgiving this week I was inspired to write, read, play and make food!  Being wrapped up in other fun activities the past couple of months I’ve completely forgotten how much fun it is to make my delicious desserts.  My favorite part about making desserts is sticking my fingers into everything during the process and then sharing the finished product with everyone.

For Thanksgiving I made two desserts. Continue reading

Attitude of Gratitude

This year has been a very exciting year – filled with ups and downs but ALWAYS staying inspired. I’m truly grateful for my family, my kitties, my health and my friends who have fully supported me on my path.  This has been a year of self discovery and a great deal of experimentation – walking into uncharted territory. Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes

After almost a year of veganism and mostly raw foods I am ready for a change.  My trip to Hawaii exposed me to fresh, local and organic cooked (and raw) meals that did not make me feel sick!  I indulged in local wild caught fish to my heart’s content.  I didn’t feel the usual tired grogginess sensation I typically experienced with a cooked meal in the past.  Previously when I ate meats/fish they were factory farmed animals which have been raised in very poor living conditions, have eaten a diet that isn’t designed for their metabolism and whose health was directly affecting my health – which made me feel awful after consumption. Let’s Get Salty!

Tags

Salt gets a really bad rap from mass media and I’m here to say that the truth is just a bit distorted and here is why.  The negative media that surrounds salt involves research of refined table salt and the symptoms that it brings.  Refined table/sea salt has been processed by high heat and the addition of bromine and anti-caking chemicals which allows for easy pouring of the salt.  As a result the structure of salt is completely denatured and our bodies become temporarily confused upon consumption. Healthy Habits

I’ve received many questions about my diet and lifestyle changes.  The recurring response among many tends to be one of the same:  “I could never do that.”  They seem to throw in the towel before they even attempt to begin.  The great news is that anyone can start wherever is easiest for them – because if it’s not easy then chances are their path to health and wellness can become a struggle rather than a blessing.  Changing just one habit at a time is better than not changing anything at all.  We tend to think about all the things we need to give up, instead of what we will gain.

My First Video

I thought I’d use a little creativity with my study break this evening instead of the usual Facebook-Twitter-YouTube mind numbing activities.  Making videos has been in the back of my mind for months and I thought it’d be a much easier way to deliver future blogs – but first I need to learn how to edit videos! Tonight I was inspired to make a video no matter how long it took.  So here’s my first stab at it!

Turn up the volume and I apologize for the shaking.

Namaste familia!
